It seems some gadgets are inclined to break once you take them through the Dark Portal... I was in the process of moving my shop from Gadgetzan to Area 52 (gotta stay on the forefront of goblin technology, you know) and noticed some of the gizmos I'd brought with me (other engineers' gizmos, of course) had fizzled out. So, once I'd unpacked, I set to work on building replacements.

This one is a simple, lightweight variation on those gizmos that help you adventurers get a finer-grained difficulty estimate for those quests you're always going on. It's a smooth operator, so I've named it The Levelator (call it "John" and bring it on elevators if you're so inclined). Granted, there are a couple of others that do the same -- and still work in Outland -- but I haven't come across any yet that don't depend on unnecessarily large machinery.

INSTALLATION: Put this folder into your World Of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns folder and launch WoW.

FEATURES: Quest names will appear preceded by their recommended level in brackets (in most, but not quite all places where quest names show up in the UI). Shift-clicking quests in your log to insert them in chat will insert the level as well. Quests with special tags (Dungeon, PvP, Raid, Elite/Group) will show the first letter of the tag in addition to the level (e.g. "[60R]The Perfect Poison", "[60D]Attunement to the Core"). When listed in a questgiver's dialog, quests whose level is far below your own appear slightly dimmed.

VERSION HISTORY

v. 2.4.1 - 2007/04/11
- WoW Patch 2.4 added the ability to insert quest hyperlinks in chat, but the way this was implemented overrode Levelator's ability to add levels when inserting quest names in chat. Levelator now makes sure a level tag gets inserted along with the new hyperlink.
- Levelator also now adds a level tag to the tooltips spawned from quest hyperlinks. (Unfortunately, there's not enough info attached to a hyperlink for us to also show a Group/Heroic/PvP/etc tag.)

v. 2.4 - 2007/03/25
- Updated TOC to indicate compatibility with WoW Patch 2.4.

v. 2.3.1 - 2007/11/27
- Fixed an error which could occur when talking to questgivers since WoW Patch 2.3.
- Since we show quests' actual levels in questgivers' dialog window, we omit the "low level" text added by the Blizzard UI in Patch 2.3 for quests whose level is far below your own. Instead, such quests are listed in a slightly faded color to stand out from the others.
- NOTE: 'Blocked action' errors due to Levelator tainting GetQuestLogTitle should be resolved in the upcoming WoW Patch 2.3.2.

v. 2.3 - 2007/11/13
- Updated TOC to indicate compatibility with WoW Patch 2.3.

v. 2.2 - 2007/09/25
- Updated TOC to indicate compatibility with WoW Patch 2.2.

v. 2.1.1 - 2007/07/20
- We now make sure to resize quest buttons in the gossip window when adding our text; long quest names should no longer result in overlapping text.
- Added support for the Ace [AddonLoader][] -- when that addon is present, it'll make sure Levelator only loads when needed (i.e. when there's a quest title needing to be displayed).

v. 2.1 - 2007/05/22
- Updated TOC for WoW Patch 2.1.

v. 2.0.1 - 2007/01/31
- The zip archive for the 2.0 release was missing the proper TOC file, and thus wouldn't load on WoW 2.0.3 and newer without "Load Outdated Addons" turned on. Fixed.

v. 2.0 - 2007/01/11
- Updated for compatibility with WoW Patch 2.0.3 and the Burning Crusade release.
- Quests with special tags (Elite/Group, Raid, Dungeon, PvP) now show the first letter of the tag in addition to the level (e.g. "[60R]The Perfect Poison", "[60D]Attunement to the Core").
- In the Burning Crusade, some outdoor group quests come with a suggested number of players; this is now shown in the title as well (e.g. "[69G3]Destroy Naberius!", a level 69 quest for which three players are recommended).

v. 2.0 beta 2 - 2006/11/14
- Quest levels in the questgiver dialogs now work on WoW 1.12 (live) as well as 2.0 (PTR or BC Beta).
- Fixed some issues with mis-labeled or out-of-order buttons in questgiver dialogs.

v. 2.0 beta 1 - 2006/11/10
- Initial release. (TOC version is for the Burning Crusade beta, but it'll work on 1.12 live realms, too.)
